PEKA PEKA TO ŌTAKI EXPRESSWAY PROJECT

WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND

  • CLIENT: NZ Transport Agency
  • CONTRACTOR: Fletcher Construction
  • DURATION: 3 years

The Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway (PP2O), when complete, will form part of the Wellington Northern Corridor which runs between Levin and Wellington Airport.

The PP2O Project, which involves constructing a bypass of Ōtaki and the provision of a four-lane expressway through the area forms part of the wider Wellington Northern Corridor improvements. The objectives are to reduce congestion and journey times in the area and to improve safety and facilitate travel between Wellington and the north.

Geotechnics is supplying, installing and monitoring geotechnical instrumentation to monitor settlement and slope stability during construction for the project. Instruments include profilometers, inclinometers, shear probes and vibrating wire piezometers. Automated monitoring has been utilised for the vibrating wire piezometers to provide accurate, responsive results.

Ultrasonic cross-hole pile testing was conducted by Geotechnics to determine the integrity of the concrete piles on the new Ōtaki River Bridge.
