Laboratory Technician (Intermediate–Senior) – Onehunga

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician (Intermediate to Senior Level) to join our team in Onehunga. This is a full-time, permanent position offering an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your CMT laboratory testing career.

We are seeking someone with 2-3+ years’ experience in soils and aggregates testing, along with experience as an IANZ Key Technical Person (KTP).

In this role, you will oversee the preparation, execution, and reporting of laboratory tests, ensuring high technical standards, adherence to safety and quality procedures, and efficient workflow. You will act as a technical lead for junior staff, provide supervision and training, and contribute to continuous improvement in laboratory operations.

This is a chance to join a leading specialist geotechnical testing company with a wide scope of services. The role is hands-on and physically demanding, requiring a reasonable level of fitness. The nature of the work may require early starts, late finishes and occasional overtime.

  • Conducting geotechnical laboratory tests on soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete samples
  • Performing all work in accordance with our IANZ accreditation and project management system
  • Sign off testing and reports as KTP
  • Ensure laboratory calibrations are complete and accurate
  • Train junior technicians in test methods and our quality management system
  • Allocate tasks to technicians
  • Collaborating with clients to ensure high-quality project outcomes
  • Ability to motivate with enthusiasm and empathy, bringing positive energy, uplifting others, and inspiring the team to work together toward shared goals.

Nā tōu rourou | What you’ll bring

  • Ideally you will have a degree or diploma in Geography, Geology, Earth Sciences, Physical Science, or similar.
  • Experience as a IANZ KTP (preferred but not essential)
  • A full, clean NZ driver’s licence
  • Physically capable to handle and test samples up to 25 kg
  • Excellent digital and data skills.
  • Great problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and quality
  • Hardworking, self-motivated and a positive attitude
  • Able towork autonomously with minimal supervision and collaborate with team members
  • Excellent communication skills and the flexibility to adapt quickly to change
  • Safety conscious
  • Customer focussed
