My role involves the integration of our ERP system, ensuring profitability, product development, managing the development of our staff so that they are all happy, capable and confident in their roles; helping clients with pricing jobs, trouble shooting technical issues; and sharing industry knowledge both with staff and customers.

My current role involves providing technical advice, networking, marketing, attending conferences and promoting the industry. Based in the Christchurch office, I work with both the Sales team and the Measurement & Calibration Centre. My role as the Hire & Products Advisor involves servicing our equipment for hire as well as assisting our customers with the purchasing and calibration of their own equipment.

I have extensive experience in customer service developed in a variety of industries and believe that good business is about building good relationships. I also have a habit of forgetting I have headphones on when playing a good classic rock song and sing too loudly in the office while I am wearing them!

I am fairly new to the Geotechnics team, but have extensive experience in customer services, which enables me to help create an easy experience for all our customers.

Currently the Managing Director of Geotechnics, I have been involved in engineering materials testing since 1975. My areas of specialist expertise include engineering applications for soil, concrete, aggregate and concrete products, together with specialist geotechnical testing and instrumentation validation. I have had numerous overseas assignments in southeast Asia involving specialist geotechnical investigations and testing, pavement condition surveys, pile condition assessments and the management of field testing operations.

Currently I am the Construction Materials Team Leader at Geotechnics, where I am responsible for project managing the Auckland Land Development jobs, creating tenders and quotes, liaising with clients, overseeing staff and ensuring the quality of the projects we deliver.

Operations Manager Pavements

As Operations Manager, I organise the Pavements Testing team for geotechnical and rehabilitation investigations, as well as construction compliance testing. The majority of our work comes from Auckland transport and involves managing Plate Bearing Testing, Pavement Test Pits, Falling Weight Deflectometer work, Insitu CBRs, Benkelman beams, designing and implementing traffic management plans; and undertaking services locating and mapping for construction projects.

Instrumentation Team Leader

As the Instrumentation Team Leader for Geotechnics Auckland, I am responsible for the operations of a team of technicians installing and monitoring geotechnical and structural instrumentation for projects in the Auckland city and surrounding regions. Major instrumentation projects my team have worked on include: Auckland Waterview Connection, Victoria Park Tunnel, New Lynn Rail Trench, Esmonde Road Interchange & Northern Busway projects.

Soils Laboratory Manager

Currently, I am the Soils Laboratory Manager for Geotechnics in Auckland, where I am responsible for direct supervision of senior and junior technicians, to ensure client and management objectives are reached. This includes planning testing schedules; allocating duties to senior and junior technicians consistent with their level of training; and ensuring that staff are aware of deadlines and expected work quality.

Currently I am the Triaxial Laboratory Manager at Geotechnics. With over 20 years commercial testing and 8 years researching experience, my field of expertise covers Triaxial, Shearbox, Ringshear, Permeability, Pinhole and Isotropic Consolidation tests. I am responsible for the smooth running of the Triaxial Laboratory and providing customers with excellent testing services.

Originally from the UK, I spent several years travelling around the world, including some volunteer work in South Africa. Eventually, I decided to settle down in Auckland, New Zealand. 

Currently, I am the Technical Coordinator for The Measurement and Calibration Centre, which is a division of Geotechnics, where I am responsible for customer liaison, tending to job bookings, and managing the technicians' workload.

I am very approachable and proactive. Through my varied background in hospitality and promotion, I developed transferable skills, with my key strengths being organisation and communication.

Senior Geophysical Investigation Specialist

With a Master of Science background in geology and geography, I utilise my experience to help inform engineering and design decisions for projects such as building a residential retaining wall, or identifying the best location to widen a motorway.  My role involves using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Cable Avoidance Technology (CAT) to gather underground data to inform our clients of where any underground cables or pipelines may be present, which would influence the planning decisions involved with these projects.

After completion of a BSc in Earth Science from Waikato University I started with Geotechnics as a technician.  Over the intervening years I’ve developed a high level of understanding and knowledge in areas of materials testing, geotechnical instrumentation and project management. Alongside this, I have gained expertise delivering projects throughout New Zealand and abroad, with a particular interest for delivering challenging and innovative geotechnical instrumentation projects. My current role is the development of our services in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions; as well as new and innovative technologies nationwide.

My role involves instrumentation installation and monitoring, material logging and site investigations, ground density Ndm testing and environmental monitoring/sampling. I also oversee Health and Safety for the Tauranga office.

After completing a degree in biology, I began my career in Environmental Laboratory testing in Sydney, Australia. As my experience increased, I broadened my skills to include civil laboratory testing, which peaked my interest. Upon relocating to my hometown of Christchurch a year ago, I joined the team at Geotechnics.

Currently I am an IANZ signatory and Manager of Geotechnics Christchurch, where I am responsible for co-ordinating the smooth running of the lab; ensuring accurate, timely results and maintaining our laboratory quality systems. I am also an active member of the CETANZ committee, which represents and promotes high quality Civil Engineering testing in New Zealand.

My area of speciality is civil laboratory soil testing.

After completing my studies at Canterbury University in Geology, Geography and Anthropology I joined the Christchurch Geotechnics team.  In post-earthquake Christchurch I was involved in a wide range of interesting projects from geotechnical investigations to instrumentation installation and monitoring. I have since relocated to the Nelson Geotechnics branch where I am assisting with the continued development of this branch.
