Calibration Technician – Civil Lab (Intermediate) | Auckland

Level-up your hands-on technical career in calibration with a team that loves getting it right the first time.

We’re looking for an intermediate-level Calibration Technician to join our GeoSales team in Auckland, supporting our customers with high-quality calibration and repair services and helping build instruments in-house.

In this role, you’ll start by learning and supporting our Civil calibration area. Once you’re confident and comfortable in the core Civil processes, you will have the opportunity to receive training and gain experience across other parts of the lab — including Force, Mass, and on‑site customer calibration work. Full training and support will be provided at every stage.

Why you’ll love this role

You’ll be part of a collaborative, fun, supportive team that takes pride in precision work—accurate, on-time results and a “do it right first time” mindset. You’ll also follow a structured training plan to keep building your skills and grow your career in calibration and metrology.

What you’ll be doing (the good stuff)

In this role, you’ll get real variety and plenty of hands-on work, including:

  • Civil laboratory calibration and repair work
  • Step‑by‑step training to build capability in Force and Mass calibration
  • Opportunities to join senior techs on on‑site customer calibrations as you progress
  • Working within our ISO 17025 quality system
  • Assembling instruments for sales stock
  • Delivering accurate, high‑quality results and supporting the wider calibration team

What we’re looking for

You don’t need to tick every box—if you’re mechanically sharp, eager to learn, and take pride in quality work, we want to hear from you.

You’ll bring

  • A genuine eye for detail and a methodical approach to getting accurate readings and high-quality output.
  • Solid communication skills and a team-first attitude—able to collaborate, help others more junior to you and also work independently when needed.
  • Good judgement (knowing when to troubleshoot and when to ask for help).
  • Basic maths plus confidence with Word/Excel and general computer skills.
  • A commitment to health, safety and wellbeing, looking after yourself and others is non-negotiable.

Desirable Qualification/Skills

  • Diploma (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering — preferred, not essential.
  • Experience with hand tools, and ideally machining / fitting / turning / lathe work.
  • Transferable skills like lathe or CNC exposure, mechanical repairs, and electronics experience (all great foundations for calibration work).

Your impact (how success looks)

You’ll know you’re winning when you’re delivering:

  • Accurate, on-time calibration and repair results
  • Strong contribution to the team and confident communication with customers and colleagues
  • Continuous improvement, of yourself and the way we work
  • A clear development path with a goal of progressing toward IANZ Key Technical Personnel (KTP) capability over time

Who you’ll work with

You’ll report to the MCC Civil team leader and partner closely with the MCC Manager and other GeoSales staff and customers.

You spend a lot of your time at work, so it’s important to love what you do. Our culture is one‑of‑a‑kind—fun, supportive, and still fully professional.
