Laboratory & Field Technician (Graduate Opportunity)

Kapiti Coast, Wellington | Full-time | 8-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Be part of the team supporting the Ōtaki to North of Levin (Ō2NL) project. This is a full-time, 8-month fixed-term opportunity based in the Kapiti region. You’ll need to be able to travel to our laboratory in Manakau, just south of Ōtaki.

Whether you’re a recent graduate or have a year or two of practical experience, we’d love to hear from you. If you’ve studied Earth Science, Geology, Physical Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline, we’ll provide the training and support to help you build your career in geotechnical materials testing.

You’ll enjoy a mix of laboratory testing, field work and office-based reporting, giving you hands-on experience across a range of infrastructure and construction projects. As you’ll be travelling to project sites, occasional early starts, late finishes and paid overtime may be required.

If you’re practical, enjoy working both indoors and outdoors, and are keen to learn, this is a great opportunity to develop your skills with an experienced team.

In this role you’ll be involved in:

  • Construction materials testing in the laboratory and on site
  • Sampling and field testing
  • Data entry and preparing test reports
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and following quality procedures
  • Working alongside experienced technicians and engineers on a variety of projects

Nā tōu rourou | What you’ll bring

  • A Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Earth Science, Geology, Physical Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline (preferred)
  • Recent graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Some work experience is ideal but not essential
  • A full New Zealand driver’s licence (manual driving ability preferred)
  • The ability to safely lift items weighing 20kg+
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude
