This is a pivotal role for someone passionate about geotechnical and construction materials testing, people leadership, and operational excellence.

About the Role

As the Wellington Project Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for managing people, assets, facilities, and financials in a commercial laboratory setting. You’ll ensure our laboratory delivers high-quality testing services to a wide range of projects, maintaining compliance with ISO17025 and industry standards.

  • Lead and develop a team of technicians and team leaders, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage laboratory operations, including resource allocation, financial performance, and project delivery.
  • Oversee geotechnical and construction materials testing in both field and laboratory environments.
  • Ensure all work complies with Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management Systems, Quality Management Systems, and relevant standards (NZ, AUS, British, ISO, ASTM).
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Drive business growth by identifying new opportunities and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Nā tōu rourou | What you’ll bring

  • 7+ years’ experience in an ISO17025 accredited laboratory, with proven management of commercial or project labs.
  • Strong business acumen and a track record of delivering large projects or key customer work.
  • Skilled in sampling and testing geotechnical and construction materials, compiling factual reports, and troubleshooting data/results.
  • Excellent communicator, safety-focused, and quality-driven with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop teams.
  • Full NZ driver’s licence required.
